Wilderness Walking: Resources
Helpful books, websites, and organizations for the novice hiker.
One evening my brothers and I were playing ball out behind the bleachers while our father was pitching for our church team. Some ladies from a local softball team saw me and asked me to play with them. In the winter they played city league basketball, and I joined them. Later I started playing Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball. I love everything about competition—interacting with my teammates, making new friends, getting hot and sweaty, and staying in shape so I can keep up with my grandkids. I try to be an example for the younger ladies who play in the 45 and older sports league I founded. Keeping in shape is not a part-time thing. You need to be aware of what you put into your body and how you treat it. Even carrying your own groceries and
planting your own flowers can help.
