In our neighborhood everyone got together in the cow pasture and played ball about four nights a week. I played on the high school team in 10th grade. They needed a pitcher, and I tried out and from then on I was the pitcher. When you are part of a team you learn to get along. You learn the valuable lesson of give and take. I am still playing with the Tennessee Senior Stars 65+ team; we have been the world champions for the past five years. I have battled numerous health problems, including open-heart surgery, a hysterectomy, back surgery, a knee cartilage transplant, several strokes and more. I’ve even survived a plane crash. But I ain’t out yet. I am the phoenix of softball. I rise from the ashes. I’m still in the game.
