Got Calcium?

The milk industry would love for you to believe that the secret to a perfect figure is 3 glasses of milk per day.

The research on calcium and weight loss is far from conclusive, however, a recent study in a major medical journal suggests that calcium (along with vitamin D) may be useful in preventing postmenopausal weight gain.

In the study, the researchers evaluated over 36,000 postmenopausal women ages 50 to 79 years. They gave half of the women 1000 mg of calcium + 400 IU of Vitamin D per day and the other half were given a placebo (inactive vitamin pill).

The Huge Payoff of a Healthy Lifestyle

It's never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle and a recent study of middle age men and women proves that beyond a doubt. The study looked at the health improvements associated with eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily, getting regular exercise, getting to or maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking. What they found is that after just 4 short years the healthy adopters had a 40% lower risk of dying and a 35% lower risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Incredible, isn't it? Imagine the results of being healthier over 5, 10 or even 20 years!
