WE the founders, investors, employees and associates of ELDR intend to forever change the all too common negative perceptions of aging and what it means to be old. With open eyes we will celebrate—rather than bemoan—the natural processes that cause our bodies to change and gradually decline until we are no longer sustainable.
Along the way we will encourage people of all ages to do their utmost to live healthy, holistic lifestyles that encompass good nutrition, exercise, integrative medical care, community and positive spirituality. We will face head-on the events that may challenge many of us and our loved ones as we age, not shying away from difficult issues such as cancer, dementia or incontinence.
We will seek out wisdom from elderly people and in doing this we will provide each—regardless of race, class, sex or religion—a platform to honestly and openly express their viewpoints. Those of us who are not yet elderly will daily remind ourselves: how would we want to be treated. Accordingly, we will care for and respect our elders in the way we will want to be treated and respected.
Our belief is that everyone is valuable and has something to contribute until the very end of their days. We will be open to the many roads life can take us and help elderly people and their families make difficult decisions about care should these decisions be necessary. We encourage people to live independently as long as is safely possible, but we realize that the best options may vary from one situation to the next.
At ELDR we ask the question: What if we couldn't wait to be old, just like a child can't wait to be an adult?
